“When we first decided to make changes in psychedelic drug policy in Ann Arbor, we looked at a bunch of different models. We ultimately decided to use the Decriminalize Nature model because it fit our ethos and because it was open source.
Decriminalize Nature national really worked closely with us. They provided all the information that they had to help us successfully decriminalize. They provided us with basic and etheogenic plant and fungi information. They provided us with example letters we could send to our city council members. They helped us craft specific language and policies that would fit within our unique community. They helped us prepare to talk with our city council members and at city council meetings.

Building support amongst local government and constituents in the community is crucial to passing controversial legislation.
Meaningful change requires a ton of work, so when it happens, we need to spread the word to always be building on our successes.
“Larry from Decrim Nature has been a gem in the entheogenic community. With his encouragement I started the decrim movement in Arcata, CA in 2021. At the time I was an introvert, and didn’t have much of a community in the Arcata area, but with Larry’s support I had the courage to start tabling for Decrim Nature Humboldt, and very quickly got support.
Larry helped me step-by-step from how to delegate responsibilities to volunteers, to how to write appropriate emails to the city council members. He was always available for a call when I needed one, and always had the answers to my questions. I couldn’t have led the movement in Arcata (2021), and later in Eureka (2023), without his continued support.

“When I first discovered the power of plant medicine, I felt a strong urge to create a safe and supportive framework in my community so that others could experience deep healing under the protection of the law. That’s when I discovered Decriminalize Nature.
It was essential for me to build a safe political and social climate around plant medicine—one that would protect facilitators, participants, and the broader community. But with such a lofty goal and no experience in politics, I turned to Decriminalize Nature’s national team for guidance in early 2020.
Right away, I was connected to others in Arizona who shared the same vision. Through monthly state-level meetings, I began to learn the foundational steps of changing local and state policies. These meetings not only taught me about the challenges we’d face, but more importantly, they helped me find a community of like-minded people committed to making the world a better place. For the first time, I felt at home in a community that shared my passion for this work.
